About Karina Felix
Karina Felix, born and raised in Aruba, Dutch West Indies, started dancing at the age of five. She studied with teachers sent from The Netherlands. She danced and modeled all over the island and was a regular on the local TV channel.
Karina auditioned and joined a musical revue at the Aladdin Theater and performed two shows a night for over five years.
In December 1988 Karina was elected Miss Aruba and went on to participate in the Miss Universe Pageant in May 1989, which was held in Cancun, Mexico. Thereafter she attended college in New Jersey, USA and continued as the dance captain of their dance company.
After getting married and starting her family, she opened a dance studio in the Turks & Caicos Islands in 2002 and was able to take her students to Pennsylvania, USA and Cuba for their Dance Intensive training, before moving to West Palm Beach in 2008. At this point she taught dance at several studios in the area as well as substitute teaching at BAK MSOA. Karina is certified in the six-year Vaganova- and the Ballet National de Cuba curriculum.
Always looking for new ways to promote the art of dance and to create opportunities for the dance community, she founded “The Dance Magazine of Florida” in December 2009 and renamed it “World of Dance Magazine” in 2014 creating a dance community and sharing dance information through the publication which is distributed within the state of Florida and beyond.
In 2013, in staying with her wishes to create other venues and opportunities for the dance community she incorporated the Cover Model Search Contest to offer dancers a chance to be featured on the cover of the magazine as well as showcase their talents to the media world. This year she extended the model search into “World of Dance Fashion Show”, expanding the dancers reach by offering a chance to model in front of modeling scouts.
Since launching the magazine and working closely with the dance community, she saw a need to help in the community in a different way. This year she founded “Visionaries of Dance Inc.”, a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to supporting, promoting and preserving the advancement of high quality education in the art of dance and empowering artists, arts organizations and other cultural partners for the greater good of the dance community. This summer “Visionaries of Dance Inc.” will be launching several dance outreach programs for the under-served communities and offering other programs to create visibility in the art of dance.
“The opportunity to meet so many amazing people from various dance communities has been an amazing experience for me. Everyday I look forward to meeting new people and helping to reach their potential by showcasing their talents through the various avenues I’ve been able to create.”~ Karina Felix
