“Ballet in the City” 2019 ambassador
Port St. Lucie – Kara Castillo is 14 years old and has been dancing with St. Lucie Ballet in Port St. Lucie, FL for 10 years. She is in the pre-professional program at SLB and spends 30+ hours in the studio each week with her main discipline being classical ballet, along with training in the areas of modern, contemporary and jazz. In 2018, she attended Universal Ballet Competition in MIramar, FL for the first time and was awarded 1st place in the classical category. She also had the amazing opportunity of competing and taking master classes at ADC in St. Petersburg, FL and was offered a scholarship to attend the 2018 summer intensive program at Pittsburgh Ballet theatre.
Along with being on her studio’s competition team, Kara has performed several lead roles with St. Lucie Ballet, such as Snow Queen, Arabian, Marzipan lead from the Nutcracker and Tiger Lily from Peter Pan. This past summer, Kara was asked to perform the pas d’esclaves with her summer partner, as well as a pas de quatre for the International Ballet Festival held in Miami, FL. In the Fall of 2018, she also participated in performing a classical solo and ensemble for the St. Augustine International dance festival.
In addition to her intense dance training, she attends school full-time and is on the honor roll. She recently had the honor of being selected as a 2019 ambassador for the Ballet in the City organization. She has a deep passion for dance and enjoys expressing herself on stage in front of an audience. Kara’s goal is to one day become part of a professional ballet company.
